Born in February 1973, Han nationality, CCP member, researcher, doctoral supervisor. He is the chief scientist of the Galaxy group of the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice president of the department of astronomy and Space Sciences of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He graduated from Peking University in 1996 and 1999 for the bachelor and master degree respectively, and graduated from the Department of astronomy, University of Michigan in 2005 for PHD. He later worked at Harvard University, where he served as Einstein scholar and PI researcher of Smithsonian observatory. In 2010, he started to work at the National Astronomical Observatory. Since 2011, he has been a professor at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2014, he was awarded the "National Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars". In 2015, he was selected as the "young and middle-aged scientific and technological innovation leader" of the Ministry of science and technology. In 2016, he was awarded the "national outstanding scientific and technological worker". In the same year, he was awarded the "delta Lectureship Award". In 2017, he was selected as the "million talents project", In 2019, he was selected into the first Tencent "scientific exploration Award".
Liu Jifeng is interested in multi-band observation on compact objects and stars. At present, more than 70 academic papers have been published in international journals, and their scientific research achievements have been selected as the "representative achievements of 22 Chinese scientists in 2013", as well as the "top ten scientific and technological progress of China in 2015" and "top ten scientific and technological progress of China in 2019". In November 2013, December 2015 and November 2019, he published scientific research achievements as the first author in the international top academic journal Nature. The work in 2013 was featured in the headlines by nature, calling it "the Holy Grail of the field.". The work in December 2015 was called "one of the five major discoveries in this field in 2015" by Nature. In November 2019, they discovered the largest stellar black hole in the Galaxy by using a new method with LAMOST, which will promote the change of stellar evolution theory.
