Pulsar Timing and Gravity Test Project

The FAST is currently the largest single dish radio telescope in the world and has the highest sensitivity (gain ∼ 15) in the 1400 MHz radio band. FAST provides us an opportunity to observe some of the pulsar binaries with better sensitivity than any previous observations. This sensitivity means that we can measure pulse times of arrival more precisely than any telescope. This is important for improving the tests of gravity theories mentioned above. It is also important for obtaining new constraints on the EOS. For this programme, we select a number of pulsars where the capabilities of FAST will make unique contributions and a signifificant difference to the precision of the timing measurements. This figure shows existing observations for our project.
